Call for volunteering applications in Rromani Baxt Albania

Rromani Baxt Albania is a well respected NGO located in Tirana, Albania's capital city. The centre provides a range of vital services for the Roma community in the area.
This volunteer project is based in Tirana, Albania in the area of Allias-Kinostudio. Volunteers will be working in community schools in Rromani Baxt Albania, preserving a simple and traditional way of Roma community life. Most secondary Roma pupils start to learn a second language at about ten years old. In the first steps they face difficulties in foreign languages. The role of the native English-speaking volunteers is to teach conversational language skills.

Volunteers receive some help from the local teachers regarding lesson preparation and content. The volunteers will work around 5 hours a day from Monday to Friday. During their staying in Albania we will support them to know more about Roma culture and tradition(music, dancing etc). We will enable them at least one visit in a Roma family.

For all volunteers will be provided one trip during the weekend to discover the beauty of Albanian nature.
Volunteering in Albania means  to make a small contribution to the fight against poverty and discrimination in one of Europe’s poorest countries. Volunteers in Albania predominantly work with children and by doing so they are directly contributing to these youngsters’ education.

  2. I don't believe so. It's a common misperception that an NGO has deep pockets of money to pay for every volunteer expense; that's not the case. As you know, funding for Roma programs are severely limited and judging by the fact that this site is made of a free platform, I doubt the organization is well funded. You're volunteering your time and talents. Furthermore, the individuals working in the NGO--where are they getting paid? Don't they need money to live and eat? You can't expect them to live just on volunteering. Volunteers in their own way are getting a personal gain by feeling that they did something significant. There's costs on all levels whether it be financial or personal. If you feel the cost is inappropriate, I would suggest you contact them and let them know you don't want the local transportation, excursion, or assistance with housing.
